What is the best time of day for a photoshoot?

Lighting is one of the most important aspects of any photoshoot. It can completely change how you look in photos. The best lighting is during what we like to call “golden hour”. You have two options for photoshoot times for a photo session on a sunny day, if you want your photoshoot to feel warm and glowy.

If you are a morning person, the first hour after sunrise will be the most beautiful light.

If you are more of an evening person, the hour just before sunset will be the best lighting.

Sometimes families with smaller kids prefer to photograph a little later in the morning or a little earlier in the evening, and that’s ok. I have tricks to make it work with the light. The further you get from golden hour however, the more harsh the light will look, which can create less flattering shadows on your face and clothing. When preparing for your photo session I can recommend locations that work better for shoots outside of golden hour.

When the weather is overcast, there is a lot more flexibility with the time of day that the light is best for your photoshoot because the light is ambient, soft and even.

Let’s chat about your photoshoot vision and what time of day works best for you!
